An inmate who was serving a sentence at a Manitoba prison has died in custody.
The Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reports, on January 11, Tommy Beaulieu, an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution died while in custody.
At the time of his death, Beaulieu had been serving a sentence of 10 years, 5 months and 7 days for aggravated assault peace officer, break and enter to steal firearm and robbery with violence since May 13, 2020.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances and notify both the police and the coroner.
According to a CBC news article, Beaulieu was in prison for his role in a crime spree in western Manitoba that included the shooting of an RCMP officer.
