Police recapture inmate after escape from Stony Mountain

An inmate who escaped from the Stony Mountain Institution’s minimum security unit on Sunday night has been recaptured.

According to a press release, on October 4, during the 9:45 p.m., count in the minimum security unit at Stony Mountain Institution, staff members discovered that Aban Galin was not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) contacted the Stonewall RCMP detachment and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

At approximately 5:10 a.m., on October 5, the Winnipeg Police Service advised that they had apprehended Galin.

Galin is currently serving a sentence of 3 years, 3 months, 29 days for Possession Schedule I Substance, Possess Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order, Possess Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possess Firearm Knowing Unauthorized, and Careless Use/Storage of Firearm.

CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
