Police have arrested a man after he allegedly tried to steal a puppy and then accidentally shot himself while fleeing the scene.

Peel Regional Police say the incident happened Friday night in Brampton, after the suspect responded to an online ad for a nine-week-old pure bred American Bulldog named “Tarzan.”

The dog’s owner and the suspect arranged to meet in the area of Skylar Circle. Once at the location, the victim handed the puppy to the would be buyer. The suspect refused to pay and pointed a gun at the victim, then ran away with the puppy. The suspect accidentally shot himself in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police were called at 7:31 p.m., and located the suspect who was arrested and given medical attention. He was transported to hospital and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.
